Sunshine in a bowl. How lovely

Tomorrow will be the first day of school. Yea. First day of UNIVERSITY actually to be really accurate. haha.

But you know, to be honest, I'm spewing out butterflies from my mouth right now. What I mean is that instead if having butterflies in my stomach, there are so many of them that they are spilling out of my tummy. Right now. HAHA. But I'd be fine. I hope.

I think y'all would be excited to know what has been happening, but I cannot update you on anything because, NOTHING INTERESTING has been happening. Seriously, everything is quite slow. I took a peek at one of my online lecture/tutorial thingy. OMG medical statistics.

That means, maths. That means, OMG. I know I got an A in a levels, but it has to be made clear, that my A came from pure memorization. I memorized the questions so clearly that I knew if a question was genuinely new, or a rework of the past year papers, or just simply lifted from the past year papers. Seriously.

Ah I would make it through just like that. I will. I have to. Yes this is called self brainwashing, you have witnessed it here and only here on Chan Tze Wei's blog. I do not know if I'm simply adding too much pressure on myself or I'm just a noob. Ah but whatever, we'll just have to see how this first semester goes. I better not let myself down.

Ah, I found my first guilty indulgence. Apart from going to town to walk and bask in the sights and sounds which I would do oh so often from now on, it is actually, caramel flavoured tim tams. OH GOD TIM TAMS. I totally dig it. TIM TAMS ANYONE??? I need tim tams. I ate 2 in the morning as breakfast. I took one as lunch dessert. I just had one after eating my dinner. Yes tim tams everytime. I love it. And so should you. Seriously, at the rate I'm going, I probably will start gaining a gazillion Kg by the time I reach Singapore for my winter break.

I'm going to find and make some friends, who cannot wait to leave their current accommodation. Not saying I hate my place and stuff, but I could do with a little less noise and stuff. But that's not to say I'm having it particularly bad, but I really do need to find a cheaper place to stay in. It probably would benefit me in the long run. I probably can go jogging or something. Or maybe skip in my room. Alone. I know it sounds sad, but I kinda crave the alone time sometimes.

Sometimes, reflecting on your own, doing a little soul searching is not a bad thing you know. I mean, we do get lost in life at times, and these are the times where we really need to ask ourselves what we really want in life. Sometimes, life just moves at such a fast pace that one has to slow down, take a little walk, enjoy whats around them. I guess what I'm trying to say is, it is always not a bad thing, to have some alone time. Some Me time as I would call it. You do not know, how enjoyable life can be when you move blindly with the flow.

It is funny, when I say I'm envious of some people who have it all. Cash, car, big houses, successful career, seemingly complete family, branded goods and what not. But for all you know, these people, do not know what true enjoyment is. I mean, in a materialistic way, yes everything is fulfilled, but how about the emotional, or spiritual aspect in life?

For one, I saw a family in kingsford operating a chinese restaurant. It is a family business, and judging by how it goes, they probably are barely making enough to make ends meet. But the whole family is part of this restaurant(Mom is the cashier, daughter and aunt the waitresses, brother and father the cooks). I saw on one evening, how happy this family is running the business, with all that chaos, shouting, rushing in and out. This is something I truly envy.

I guess, I grew past the age that thinks material needs=happiness. Sometimes, it still does apply(especially when you bought that nice pair of evisu jeans you wanted for months on a discounted price) but sometimes, one still can be happy, with lesser money. Note I said lesser money and not no money. You still need money in order to survive. That is still the reality of this society.

Anyways, it is late. I realised I'm just rambling on and on. But I guess, this is reflective of my thoughts, just a little jumbled up here and there.

Have fun and enjoy life to the fullest in YOUR OWN way.

Cause everything I see is YOU

I'm holding back a lot.

In Sydney, I finally realised how important $$$ is. Everything here is so expensive. You have to pay for everything. I guess the saying of there is no free lunch in this world really applies in Sydney.

the only things I found cheap till now were, mugs(69 cents), nuts($2.00 for a packet), pillows($4.99 for 2) and fish oils($12.99). Yes, these things are comparatively cheaper in Sydney but the rest are sky high. Ok I'm exaggerating, but you know, you would not be used to the prices even if you came from Singapore. Can you imagine those Malaysians, or Thais who are here? I cannot imagine.

Anyways, I was paying my school fees and my mom just had 2 mths -3 mths salary used up in a matter of 3 minutes. yes. one minute per month. I feel so bad. So I'm going to push myself for this degree.

It seems the locals here are very much a friendly bunch, on the surface la. But I guess that is still better than being mean on the inside and outside. Sigh. I miss Singapore's uncouth, unfriendly(sometimes), humid weather. Notice I said, Humid, not hot. I love the moisture in the air in Singapore due to my dry skin and stuff, but not the heat. The temperature here, on the other hand is cool. Just right, so yea. I guess you cannot have the best of both worlds, it just does not work on this planet I guess.

I went on a city tour with the Singapore student association, forgoing the Singapore Yr 1 medicine faculty's outing to the botanical gardens. I hope they still invite me to stuff and stuff and stuff.sigh. I did make a few, erm, acquaintances. (PS: I don't really like using the term friends so loosely. I don't know, its just me I guess). The city there, is huge. When I'm on break and stuff, I probably would want to go there and walk around aimlessly. It is really really big.

You can tell, I'm probably, more of an urban rat. I cannot handle crowds well, but I need the movement. I need the bustling activities, the many people walking around, the sounds and sights of different people/vehicles, the numerous malls and stuff to explore. Oh my, I was actually blown away by the amount of things in city. Cannot wait for my breaks and stuff. heh. When i travel, I don't dig the sightseeing part, but when I'm in a place like, Tokyo, or Hong Kong, where you can see many people walking around, scurrying around, I love it.

I gotta show you some pictures I took. But be warned, I took only 2 pictures. HAHA

this here is a Beer opener thingy, with a kangaroo scrotum as the handle. I guess, the kangaroos here do not enjoy the same privilege a cow is entitled to in India?

this here is a person playing the harp. I was intrigued by it greatly, I mean its a harp. HARP.U know those ancient greek times, where the people play the harp for the gods and stuff? I forgot the god of music. Is there one in the first place? I thought there was. I was skyping with nao and cow, and their reaction the my sentence of, "i tell you i saw someone playing a harp!" was a unanimous, UH HUH?. well, I guess I'm weird enough to be intrigued by this.

Ah. And I had chinese food. I have to tell you, I miss Chinese food already. Like, sweet sour pork(gu lu rou), my kou rou pao, my hae mee, herbal chicken. Oh god the things here, bread, wraps, bread, warps, burgers, fried chicken, burger, fried food. -.- not very...

School is starting soon, and my mom would leave on the third day. Guess I have got to make more friends to help me along this journey. HAH. And fret not, I'm trying, albeit, the method might be a little wrong. But, I'm just built that way. I guess, its a take it or leave it thing right now. heh.

and Please L2 people, sydney in december? register your interest yea? Cause Noeleen will be here. heh. It would be fun I will plan it. (CITY everyday. heh. ok maybe not a few days beach and sight seeing.)

hello world.

Ah, I left my sunny island for the semi arid and dry Australia. The weather is good here, apart from light drizzles here and there, its actually quite pleasant. No need for air-con at all, I feel it 24-7. But it is not all good because, the dry air is wrecking much havoc on my drier skin. I got 2 red swollen patches of raw skin on each side of my face near my nose due to excessive peeling on its own. SIGH. Nevermind. And when the sunshines, it shines. I probably stay in for most of the afternoon. I know, Such a nua kia(soft kid). Too much heat just does not bode well with me at all.

I wished i could show you some visuals, but, I cannot due to the lack of a camera. maybe once i get my iphone camera up I can take some pics to show y'all.

my room mates on the other hand, kinda, giving me contradictory feels. Why? because despite the fact that they are nice, they are friendly and everything, they party hard. a little too hard. Yesterday, was amazingly bad. they made a lot of noise, but I was really too tired to bother. They did ask how was the noise and stuff after that, but.......You know what I mean. If you do not, it simply means i too humji to say, NO BRING YOUR PARTY OUTSIDE.

all 4 are aussies. I cannot tell them apart(they have blonde hair, same accent and they are all equally tall)(thanks I know I short), and often, I have trouble understanding them. I think they too. but alamak dun care. I'm probably gonna gear myself up to find a nicer apartment soon. Or maybe after year 2. Or switch rooms, but that would seem bad no? zzz.

ah, the send off before I flew.

I wished I could upload data, but that would be costly. My mobile phone plans are also might expensive, compounded by the fact my school fees are also equally expensive, I'm living in a very expensive attas country. How can Singapore be ranked one of the world's top costly countries? The only things I found cheap were nuts and pillows. Don't ask why, cause I myself ain't so sure.
10 bucks for 16 rolls of toilet rolls. WHAT?!??!?! Even tim tams on offer are 2 bucks. I can find cheaper ones in one of the ABC bargain shop in Singapore. Yes I know I sounded aunty, but leave me alone.

so this kind of situation would make me into two different persons when I come back.

I will become a miser, who is good at cooking and makes the most out of cheapo ingredients.
I will become a fat arse, who eats takeout and cooking skills will just be normal.
Or
I will become a silly miser, who spends money eating half his lunch, before eating the other in the night.

And I haven't got the slightest need to actually exercise now.I will start having blubber when I go back. haha. Got to have some motivation soon. Maybe tonight I will do some static. MAYBE.-.-

Read an article about lady gaga and here's an excerpt.

What is getting them, I think, is partly the catchy songs, but mostly Gaga's studied freakishness. To someone with an eye on art history, Lady Gaga coming to the Grammys in an egg might be a reference to a particular performance artist, but I think to most of her fans, Lady Gaga in an egg is Lady Gaga being entertainingly freaky. She seems to have made a particular effort to try to appeal to oddball kids, the kind who don't really fit in at school because they're too weird, because they look strange, act eccentrically, or don't have the same interests.

And the funny thing about this? I actually agree to it. sigh.

I probably blog more with more photos. Because life here is going to be amazingly boring. I probably mug my ass off and blog later the day everyday. HAHA

Watch this space people!

Return of the...BLEHHHHH

WOAH.

It has been some time since I properly sat down and decided to write something on this blog. Reading back on some of the entries, all I could think was, WHAT A WORRY WART I WAS/AM.

Why did I decide to come back to writing on a blog? I guess it stems from the need, to kind of keep in contact with people in Singapore. And yes, I am flying off to Australia in another 24 hours. It is probably, one of those way I can let people know what exactly is going on over here(not that anyone bothers-.-), but just let me be ok. HAHA. I still do my private reflections if you wonder, but I do not think it is suitable content for this blog. HAHA.

absence makes the heart grow fonder. Or in my case, Pre-absence. I find myself missing my family, friends, and life on this sunny little island. I wallowed in a little self pity(ok a lot) before I felt, I could really enjoy this maybe. I cannot have such negative thoughts running loose in my mind. Entering my next phase in life might be a little daunting, but it is a rite of passage as Ms Chong puts it. I have to just go with an open mind. A positive outlook would help too.

I do have to count myself lucky. Count myself lucky for the fact I was given another option when dear NUS medicine decided to write me off. Count myself lucky that I am the last child and there is no more liability for my parents after me(I AM A LIABILTY I ADMIT THAT! HAHA). Count myself lucky, I have the full support of my family and friends(I hope) to pursue my selfish little dream. I am Lucky. I should not loathe this and should embrace this.

You know it is funny, for me being a 20(I know I'm 21 this year but I want to be as young as I can ok)(I still do silly dumb things a 3 year old might be ashamed to do)(I skyped to cow, when he and I were in the same room.....) year old, I'm uncharacteristically superstitious. I believe in feng shui. Ok believe is an understatement, I know. FYI, blue black and green are my lucky colours, and I lack the element water, so....You get the idea. I believe in age old myths like how the moon cuts your ears if you point to it. I never bother cutting my nails at night, it is bad luck for your parents. I believe the only reason why I got 5As for A levels is because I wrote on a balloon, "I WANT TO GET AT LEAST 5AS FOR A LEVELS" during graduation day in PJC when we were handed balloons.I went mad with frenzy at the temples in Tokyo and bought myself a whole load of amulets for safety etc...I know. But I have to say, I still greatly believe what I heard from the feng shui master when I went to her a few years back.

I have a weighted life(It is good as far as I know) and although, I might not have the best ren(2) yuan(2)(affinity for people is what I want to know it is. It is more commonly known as EQ) compared to people, I will meet people that are invaluable. What this means basically is, I might not be the most popular person( trust me i know that long time ago=/) but I will have enough luck to make good friends.

I used to be so bummed that I would have so little friends, so little people around me that would bother and stuff. But, as I matured(hard to believe i know), I realised the importance of having great friends, than many "hi-bye" acquaintances. It might be a simple equation to people, quality over quantity, but for a person with MANY insecurities, this revelation does not come along easily. Family, is something one cannot choose(no offence here, I have the best family in the world. I Know it.). But friends, you can. My friends, most of them chose me. And most of them have stuck by me till now. It is a great honour because I believe friends are the family you choose for yourselves. I know it is more likely that my friends chose me rather than me choosing them, especially since I like to withdraw from crowds. And I thank all of you for being that friend you were for me. You know you are one of them if you bothered to read this anyways.

You know, it is probably the reason I do not want to leave Singapore. I hate to leave my comfort capsule I have made for myself, with my friends and family. But that is silly, because for one, I know, that comfort capsule will always be there, whenever I need it, whenever I want it. It is weird, but I know, no matter how many people enter and leave my life, I know there are always these few people who will still be there in my life, who will still be part of my life. And that is the reason, why I would go the extra mile for them. I know, they would too.

Isn't it comforting to know?

6 years is a long time, and a lot can happen. But somehow, I'm so certain, my comfort capsule would be as strong when I finish my degree, if not, stronger. :)

no time for insecurities, gotta respect my youth and just go for it BABEHHHHHH! HAHAH
